The Pentair Fairbanks Nijhuis Bi-directional Turbine was specifically developed and optimized to generate energy from ultra-low head tidal streams. The design features a speed controlled direct drive, a permanent magnet generator and a fully reversible impeller to maintain optimal performance in both flow directions during a complete tidal cycle. The design is patented and proven fish friendly, which allows fish to pass the turbine unscathed and improves fish migration.
